The Greening of British Racing Green
To reduce the environmental impact of our operation, Allard Motor Works (AMW) will no longer use solvent-based paints, choosing instead to adopt PPG’s new waterborne technology, Envirobase® High Performance products, to achieve a flawless, resilient and stunning basecoat/ clearcoat finish. Also, Envirobase® paints provide excellent colour-matching qualities, should someone scratch or damage the finish.

While the choice of colour for our J2Xs is the prerogative of the new owner, the choice of paint AMW uses is directly related to the show-quality standards we establish for every J2X MkII we produce. It all begins with a body preparation that is meticulously scrutinized to ensure a good foundation for the paint. We use no electric sanders, choosing to block and wet-sand the entire car, thus ensuring a perfectly flawless and smooth surface. AMW has chosen to work closely with the industry leader, PPG, to select the best application and finish possible for our J2Xs.

AMW uses only non-metallic paints in a variety of period colours that result in a stunning show-quality finish. Colour currently offered are a classic dark British Racing Green, a lighter British Racing Green, a bright red, a rich burgundy colour, midnight blue, black, an off-white for hot climates and silver. A wide selection of UV-protected leathers provide an exquisite complement to the paint.
